Disciple Women’s Fellowship

The purpose of Disciple Women is to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministries in order to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Women of First Christian Church of Norman carry out this purpose through seven groups, each providing its own leadership and choosing the format of study, service and fellowship which will best serve its members.
The meeting times of the groups vary, but include morning, afternoon and evening meetings in a member’s home or the church parlor or at a local restaurant. Service projects of the groups include the following:

  • Preparing and serving meals for church families in bereavement
  • Providing personal care items for the Women’s Resource Center which meet the needs of women seeking shelter from abuse
  • Providing items to meet the needs of independently living high school students affiliated with the Bridges program
  • Helping meet the needs of homeless through Food and Shelter For Friends
  • Providing for needs of children served by Center for Children and Families, Inc (CCFI)
  • Assembling “Totes of Love” for children going into foster care and totes of items for independent living for teens who are “aging out” of foster care
  • Sewing denim quilts made from blue jeans for the homeless
  • Sewing “hugs” cooling ties for men and women in the armed services who are stationed in the Middle East
  • Helping meet the needs of new mothers in the congregation
  • Providing funding for national and international needs through Blessing Box donations, or the purchase of blankets through Church World Service
  • Supporting other ministries of the church including the youth mission trip and Mothers’ Day Out program

The women work jointly through the Council to sponsor fund-raising events which include a Holiday Bazaar, book sale, bake sale and other events.
